Anthony Ratinov

Pianist

Hailed for his “unwavering energy and precision” (La Scena Musicale), American pianist Anthony Ratinov captivates audiences worldwide with performances noted for “class, style, technical mastery, and solo prowess” (Beckmesser). He has received major international recognition at leading competitions including the Concours Musical International de Montréal, the National U.S. Chopin Competition, the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Busoni International Piano Competition, the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition, the València Iturbi International Piano Competition, and the Olga Kern International Piano Competition. His performances have been praised for their “striking confidence,” “characterful narrative,” “discernment in tonal imagination,” and “aristocratic” musicianship (Le Devoir, Gramophone).

Ratinov has appeared as a soloist with orchestras across Europe and North America, including a sold-out performance of Chopin’s F minor Concerto at the Palau de la Música Catalana. His engagements have taken him to major international venues such as Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw, Vienna’s ORF RadioKulturhaus, Montréal’s Maison Symphonique, Warsaw’s Philharmonic Hall, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Highlights of the upcoming season include Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at the Berliner Philharmonie and a year-long collaboration with the Classeek Ambassador Program.

An avid chamber musician, Ratinov has earned top prizes with Trio Ondata, including distinctions at the Chamber Music in Yellow Springs Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. He has appeared at major festivals including the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, Taos School of Music, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. His debut album, Horizons—featuring works by Albéniz, Scriabin, Busoni, and Bach—was released on the KNS Classical label. Ratinov is a Young Steinway Artist.

Born in Indiana, he began studying piano with his grandmother, Edit Ratinova, a longtime faculty member at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow. He holds an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Robert McDonald. At Yale University, he earned both the Master of Music (MM) and Master of Musical Arts (MMA) degrees at the Yale School of Music under the guidance of Boris Berman and Boris Slutsky. He also completed his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Yale, graduating with honors while studying piano with Wei-Yi Yang.
