Ethan Jankowski
Composer
Guided by an early passion for storytelling, NYC-based composer Ethan Jankowski creates music shaped by narrative, character, and an enduring curiosity for the metaphysical and abstract. His work draws connections between art, science, space, and the human experience, forming sound worlds that invite listeners to discover meaning in the seen and unseen—from the earth around them to the stars beyond their reach.
Ethan’s solo and chamber music has been recognized by organizations such as ASCAP and Tribeca New Music. His piano work The Seated Queen, part of a constellation-inspired series, was selected for an award by Abundant Silence and will be performed at the FOCAM Festival at Washington State University. His duo piece Refugia received its premiere at The Juilliard School under the mentorship of Jessie Montgomery in her Who’s in the Lobby? series. Ethan has received commissions from artists including flutist Caroline Wincenc for her Iconic Legacy program at the National Flute Association Conference, where his work Syzygy premiered as part of a suite for flute ensemble. Additional commissions include projects with university orchestras, chamber ensembles, and performers across the country, with new works to be announced.
His compositions have been performed by musicians such as Missing Piece, Shi-An Costello, and ensembles including the Dior Quartet and the Lucerna Quartet, with performances extending to stages in the United States and abroad.
Originally from the Chicago area, Ethan now lives in Brooklyn, where he continues to expand his artistic voice while balancing his creative work with an interest in nature, movement, and literature. He is currently completing his Master of Music at The Juilliard School, having studied with Nina Young, Melinda Wagner, Valerie Coleman, and Amy Beth Kirsten. He earned his Bachelor of Music from Elmhurst University, where he studied with Mark Harold, John Dorhauer, and David DeVasto.
