Francesca Di Sauro
Mezzo-Soprano
Francesca Di Sauro is an Italian mezzosoprano whose career has developed with notable consistency across major international stages.
She first gained recognition after winning the As.Li.Co. Competition in 2018, performing the role of Carmen. Since then, she has built a repertoire spanning from Baroque to twentieth century opera, including roles such as Carmen, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri, Dorabella and Despina in Così fan tutte, Idamante in Idomeneo, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana, Adalgisa in Norma, Fenena in Nabucco, Serpina in La serva padrona, Vespetta in Pimpinone, Bersi in Andrea Chénier, Sofia Ivanovna in La risurrezione, Silvia in L’isola disabitata, and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly.
In 2021, she appeared in the short film Tempo ritrovato, produced by the Fondazione Rete Lirica delle Marche.
At the age of 25, she performed the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana at the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy, conducted by Maestro Riccardo Muti. This marked the beginning of an ongoing artistic collaboration, through which she has since appeared under his direction in productions of Nabucco as Fenena, Così fan tutte as Despina, Don Giovanni as Zerlina, and Cavalleria rusticana in Suzhou in 2024.
Her performance engagements have taken her to leading venues including Teatro alla Scala and Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan, Arena di Verona, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Oper im Steinbruch, Teatro Regio in Turin, Festspielhaus in Bregenz, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Belcanto Opera Festival in Wildbad, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, and Teatro Verdi in Trieste and Salerno.
She has collaborated with conductors including Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, Ottavio Dantone, Marco Armiliato, Carlo Rizzi, Michele Spotti, and Francesco Lanzillotta, and with directors such as Chiara Muti, Emma Dante, Rosetta Cucchi, Jochen Schönleber, Grischa Asagaroff, Arnaud Bernard, and Cecilia Ligorio.
In the upcoming season, she returns to the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni under the baton of Riccardo Muti and direction of Chiara Muti at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and will make her debut as Pippo in La gazza ladra in July in Krakow and Wildbad.
