Javier Madrazo is an acclaimed Argentine composer, arranger, and guitarist, now making his mark on the New York City jazz scene. A graduate of the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in Buenos Aires, his foundational studies were significantly enriched by private lessons with renowned local musicians and immersive trips to New York, where he arranged classes with jazz masters like Mike Moreno, Paul Bollenback, and Antonio Hart.
Madrazo’s professional career blossomed in the clubs of Buenos Aires, leading to collaborations as both a leader and a sought-after sideman. His early promise was recognized with three conservatory competition wins, earning him a place in ensembles led by alumni of jazz greats like Tim Berne.
He has released two critically acclaimed albums: “Interior” (2021), featuring a mix of original compositions and reimagined standards, and “Caminos” (2022), a collection of all-original works performed by a band of notable Argentine musicians. His work has been featured in major publications like Página 12 and Revista Brando, and he has performed at prestigious venues and festivals across Argentina.
A recent graduate of the Master’s program at Queens College, Madrazo was honored as the first non-American jazz composer to receive ASCAP’s prestigious “Louis Armstrong” award for his compositions and arrangements.
