Shawn Roth

Shawn Roth is a tenor recognized for his commanding stage presence and refined vocal artistry. He is currently a Studio Artist at the Bavarian State Opera, one of Europe’s leading opera houses.

An Artist Diploma graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts, Roth has garnered critical attention early in his career. Of his February 2024 performance as Male Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Parterre Box praised him as “an exceptionally promising young tenor” with a lustrous voice, notable precision, and strong dramatic expression.

He is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Pittsburgh District and a First Prize recipient of the Wagner Society of New York Singers Awards. He has also been recognized as a semifinalist in the Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition and a quarterfinalist in the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition.

Roth has performed with Houston Grand Opera as a member of the Butler Studio, appearing in roles including Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser and the Song Seller in Il Tabarro, and covering roles in West Side Story and Silent Night.

He has also appeared with Des Moines Metro Opera, performing roles in Salome and The Cunning Little Vixen, while covering Narraboth and Erik.

His earlier training includes studies at the Oberlin Conservatory, where he began a professional relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra, performing at Severance Hall both in opera and as a concert soloist. He is also an alumnus of the Music Academy of the West, where he was awarded the Lotte Lehmann Memorial Scholarship and won the Marilyn Horne Song Competition.
