Christina Grohowski Selected for the Met’s Lindemann Program

Mezzo-soprano Christina Grohowski, a member of the American Young Artists Association (AYA), has been selected to join the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program for the 2026–27 season. Classic Lyric Arts announced her selection in July.

Established in 1980, the Lindemann program places emerging singers, pianists, and coaches within the working life of the Metropolitan Opera. Its artists receive instruction from experienced performers and teachers, observe rehearsals, and have opportunities to participate in Met productions.

Grohowski’s preparation spans both academic training and professional apprenticeships. Originally from Walden, New York, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice and Opera Studies at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and her Master of Music in Voice and Opera at the Yale School of Music, where she studied with Adriana Zabala. Her Yale Opera roles included Clarina in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio, Martha in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, and Mother Goose in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.

In 2024, she joined Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Singer, making her company debut as Noble Orphan 3 in Der Rosenkavalier. That summer also brought ensemble work in L’elisir d’amore and The Righteous, alongside an assignment covering Flora in La traviata. Her subsequent engagements with Lyric Opera of Kansas City included casting as Tisbe in Cinderella and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly for its 2025–26 season.

For Jaebong Rho’s six letters, a 2024 song cycle for mezzo-soprano, baritone, and piano, Grohowski wrote responses to the letters of a Civil War soldier. The composition brings those texts into a musical exchange between a mother and her son. She performed the work in New Haven in December 2024 with baritone Fredy Bonilla and pianist Sandro Tsereteli, contributing to its language as well as its performance.

This summer, Grohowski is also part of Berkshire Opera Festival’s inaugural Resident Artist Program. She was cast as Fatmé in Grétry’s Zémire et Azor, presented at PS21 in Chatham, New York, on July 31 and August 2. Later this month, she is scheduled to sing Alisa in the festival’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, with performances on August 22, 25, and 28.
