Mark (Yue) Mao is a filmmaker and visual storyteller whose work blends documentary sensitivity with musical and theatrical imagination. Educated at the University of the Arts London and the Central Academy of Drama, he brings together cinematic technique and musical intuition, revealing the natural harmony between rhythm, sound, and visual narrative.

Mark’s professional experience spans theatre, film, and interdisciplinary production. He has contributed to major theatrical works including Poly’s musical Harbin Enveloped in Darkness and the China National Theatre’s production Du Shi Niang, enriching his perspective as an artist working across multiple creative traditions.

His documentary films have been recognized by international festivals such as ARFF Amsterdam, Stamford, the Asian Television Awards, and the Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival—reflecting a filmmaker deeply engaged with human experience and the emotional truths found in everyday life.

Exploring the space between documentary and musical theatre, Mark creates work that invites audiences into shared moments of empathy, contemplation, and authenticity. His filmic voice continues to evolve through an artistic practice grounded in sincerity, curiosity, and emotional resonance.
