SUNWEI LI
Soprano
Chinese lyric soprano Sunwei Li maintains an active performing career across the United States, Europe, and China. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory and a Master of Music from the Mannes School of Music. She is currently based in Baltimore, where she is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
Sunwei has performed operatic roles including the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, the Governess in The Turn of the Screw, and Zina in Dark Sisters. A dedicated advocate for new music, she frequently premieres works by contemporary composers and has appeared in numerous composer-focused concerts at the Mannes School of Music. Her commitment to modern repertoire includes performances in China as part of the Coherence Sound Theater Series, where she showcased new compositions by emerging artists.
Equally devoted to the art song repertoire, Sunwei has performed at the Mannes Sounds Festival in New York and in recital venues throughout China and Europe. Her programs span Baroque to contemporary literature and feature works in multiple languages, reflecting both her musical versatility and her deep commitment to expressive storytelling through song.
