Cellist

Cellist Gaeun Kim, praised by the New York Concert Review as “a cellist with a warm and rich sound, combining playfulness with impeccable technique,” is recognized for her musical versatility, expressive depth, and commanding stage presence. Performing over one hundred concerts annually, she is regarded as one of the most in-demand musicians of her generation.

Gaeun’s international career began at age ten when she won First Prize and a Special Award at the Antonio Janigro Competition in Croatia. She has since earned top distinctions at the Liezen International Competition, the David Popper International Cello Competition, and the East Coast International Competition. Her artistic achievements have been further recognized through honors from the Samsung Foundation, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, and the Yamaha Young Artists Program.

Her continued success includes major awards at the Schadt String Competition, the New York Young Artist Award, the France International Competition, and the Juilliard Concerto Competition, as well as First Prize and the Pablo Casals Award at the Irvin M. Klein International String Competition. She has also been a prizewinner at prominent competitions such as the Paulo International Cello Competition and the Koussevitzky Music Award. As a soloist, she has performed with orchestras across Europe, the United States, and Korea, including the Helsinki Philharmonic, Lahti Sinfonietta, Zagreb Soloists, Santa Cruz Symphony, Allentown Symphony, and the Seoul Chamber Orchestra.

A graduate of The Juilliard School, where she studied with Richard Aaron, Joel Krosnick, and Darrett Adkins, Gaeun is equally committed to contemporary music. She has premiered works by composers such as Fazıl Say, Katie Jenkins, and Seounyun Kim, earning acclaim for her dedication to expanding the cello repertoire and bringing fresh perspectives to both modern and classical works.
